In the 1970's, I was painting in oils, on canvas, and I took my theme from Feminist thinking. I was interested in the concept of "the Male Gaze", whereby women were made to feel they were constantly being appraised for their attractiveness and availability. My idea was to turn it around, turn the female gaze on the viewer.
